Narmada Parikrama, an incredible pilgrimage journey of approximately 3,800 km circumambulation the longest west-flowing river in Central India, also worshipped as Narmada maiyya or Maa Rewa. The journey traditionally commences at the river's source at Amarkantak in the Maikal Hills (Madhya Pradesh), proceeds along the southern banks to the mouth at Bharuch (Gujarat), crosses via motorboat at Mithi Talai to the northern end, and returns along the northern bank. Flexibility: Pilgrims may initiate the circuit from the mouth of the river or any point in-between, provided they complete the entire loop and return to their original starting point. To fulfill the spiritual purpose of the Yatra, the river must always be kept on the pilgrim's right side. Strict rules and administrative formalities must be adhered to throughout the journey.
